The Ramadan is the 9th month of Islamic calendar to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad (which is nuzul Al-Quran, that will be celebrated on next Wednesday).

The word Ramadan comes from the Arabic root ramiḍa or ar-ramaḍ, which means scorching heat or dryness.

Fasting the month of Ramadan was made obligatory during the month of Sha'ban, in the second year after the Muslims migrated from Mecca to Medina.

While fasting from dawn until sunset, Muslims are refrained from consuming food, drinking liquids, smoking, and engaging in sexual relations. Muslims are also instructed to refrain from sinful behavior that may negate the reward of fasting, such as false speech (insulting, backbiting, cursing, lying, etc.) and fighting.

The prophet Muhammad said that it is important to keep a balance between worship and work. As such, Muslims will continue to work during Ramadan.

You know Ramadan is around the corner when you keep on hearing a lady whisper Yusof Taiyoob every day.

  • Fasting is not just about hungry and thirst from eating and drinking, but in fact the fast is educating spiritual and physical to leave bad deeds by keeping the eyesight, keeping the hearing, keeping the conversation, controlling the mood and others. Hopefully good education and good understanding of what is learned from this holy month of Ramadhan can be applied and practiced for all time.

    Happy Ramadhan everyone!
